For people of Sukinda, Bari, Binjharpur, Dharmasala and its adjoining villages in Jajpur district, Eid-ul-Fitr, the sacred Muslim festival, has got special importance.
In these places, Muslims along with their local Hindu brothers and sisters observe the day with equal fervour and enthusiasm.
Youth leader Biswaranjan Mallick, who was an Independent candidate for the Bari Assembly seat in the last general elections, celebrated Eid at Brahmabarada under Rasulpur block by distributing sarees and clothes among poor people and dresses among schoolchildren. Besides, he led a plantation drive to mark the day.
Similarly, the Sattar Smruti Sansad led by social activist Dr Manzoor Ali did charity social works this year too. “For us, Eid-ul-Fitr is a day of caring and sharing with all our local people. On this day, our organisation undertakes a lot of charitable work in the locality,” said Dr Ali.
