BJP activists on Tuesday hurled eggs at the car of Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra at Balikuda Bazaar in Jagatsinghapur district.
Patra had gone to the district to inaugurate a new building of Balikuda hospital and also to attend the annual function of the Balikuda College.
Sources said more than 30 BJP activists were detained by the police for throwing eggs at the Minister and showing black flags.
However, some BJP activists said it is the collective anger of locals who hurled eggs to protest the lack of developmental activities in their area.
However, the Minister when asked downplayed the incident and said he had come for some Government programmes and they were successfully held.
It is less than a week after the BJP activists had pelted eggs at the vehicle of Textile Minister Snehangini Chhuria at Patnagarh in Balangir, that the Rural Development Minister was subjected to the egg attack.
