A newly constructed police station was inaugurated on Sunday by Director General of Police KB Singh.
Although a police station under the name of Sahadevkhunta police station was functioning near bus stand, yet the new building, built at about `1.87 crore, at Bicharangunj, was inaugurated despite protest by a group.
Remuna MlA Gobinda Das and his supporters protested the shifting of police station from the current venue to the newly constructed place at Bicharngunj.
DGP Singh, while stating that police force is in the path of revamp, said efforts are given to create best force after giving best infrastructure and best working condition.
“The earlier police station which was in Sahadevkhunta was lacking adequate space. Therefore, expansion was not possible. This building houses a Mahila and Sishu desk, a reception centre and other facilities,” said DG Singh.
“The promotions and recruitments which were pending for years have been cleared in phased manner. Some training centres which are lying defunct are being made operative. Under the modernization, the infrastructure is being strengthened. The CCTN has been made effective and citizen portal has been made available for lodging online complaints. The mafias of different types are being identified. Efforts are on to crack down on them and uproot them altogether as well as their links,” said Singh.
He informed that the earlier police station at Sahadevkhunta would be made an outpost. Remuna MlA Das, who was also one among the guests, said that the police station should be near bus stand as it was a crime prone location.
Sadar MlA JP Dash, ZP president Umilata Das, DIG Eastern range GS Upadhay, ADM MM Pani were among others who spoke.
DGP Singh during his Baleswar visit also inaugurated a newly constructed SDPO office at Nilgiri and Mahila and Sishu desk office at Rupsa.
