PNS

Various organisations working for abolition of bondage and migration of labourers in the State on Saturday urged the State Government to prepare a comprehensive policy to check this trend.

In a roundtable with the representatives of several political party leaders here being organsied by ActionAid, the leaders were urged to include the issues of the bonded labourers and causes of migration in their respective election manifesto in order to address the same in an honest manner.

“Around 20 lakh to 25 lakh people from Odisha are being transported to neighbouring States as bonded labourers. It is due to the inefficiency of the State Government in implementing various welfare schemes meant for poor, downtrodden and unprivileged people like MGNREGA,” said Murali of Jana Jagaran Dadan Sangha.

Radhakanta Sethy of CPI(Ml) liberation, Sura Jena of CPI, Pranati Mishra of Congress, Arun Jena of Samajwadi Party and Nishikant Mohapatra of Aam Aadmi Party participated in the round table and shared their views. Many migrant labourers too attended the meeting.
