'Education system needs greater attention to teachers'

PNS

With less attention by the Government in solving the basic needs of teachers, the State’s education system has been totally paralysed, rued office-bearers of the teachers’ federation at a Press meet here on Friday.

They expressed concern over the Government’s delaying tactics in solving their genuine causes. As decided by the federation, the teachers are planning a demonstration before State Assembly on Monday, while a bandh call has been given in the State on the death anniversary of former CM Biju Patnaik on April 17 to ventilate their grievances.

The teachers’ demands include introduction of new school timetable, fresh grant, extending all the perquisites as per the Right to Education Act to Shiksha Karmis, Shiksha Sahayaks and Junior Teachers and taking over all the institutions getting full grant-in-aid by the Government.

The teachers’ representatives said value-based education depends largely on meeting the basic needs of teachers like equal pay for equal work as given to Central Government |teachers and other facilities as per the Right to Education Act.

If the teachers remain satisfied, the schools would certainly flourish, senior teachers said at the meet attended by Jharsuguda Teachers’ Association president Sadananda Das, general secretary Kishore Kumar Mohanty and vice-president Hemant Tripathy.
