The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday urged the Khordha District and Sessions Court here to allow it take Seashore CMD Prashant Dash on remand in connection with money laundering and illegal transactions of money. The court hearing on the petition would be held on September 24.
Notably, the Supreme Court had asked the ED to join the CBI on finding the money trail. As the chit fund companies have transactions outside the State and country, neutral agencies like CBI and ED could unearth the truth behind the money trail, the apex court had ruled.
The ED might quiz Dash about his investments, transactions and third parties who aided and abetted him. The agency might ask him whether he had invested the money in the State or outside, sources said.Meanwhile, the Special Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of CBI on Friday reserved verdict on the bail pleas of chit fund scam accused Odia daily newspaper ‘The Suryaprava’ owner Biksh Swain and AT Group co-founder Ranjan Dash.
The court heard the arguments from both sides on the bail petition of Swain and Dash before reserving the ruling for Saturday. Swain and Dash were produced before the CBI court here after their 14-day remand ended on Friday. The duo was sent to the Jharpada jail.
Notably, the two were arrested by the CBI on September 5 after two days of marathon grilling at the CBI office here.
