Attending the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) meeting held in Kolkata on Wednesday, a team of five delegates from the East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) here discussed on its six demands at the meeting. On assured promotional prospectus of railway engineers, the ECoREA bought the notice of the CPC that diploma engineers get only one promotion and graduate engineers do not get even a single promotion during their service period while other categories get more than one promotion, informed ECoREA general secretary Bobin Mohanty.
The ECoREA complained that after upgrading Group-D staff to Group-C, the Group-C cadre has become lowest cadre in the Central Government and it is worst ever humiliation to the railway engineers. Besides, it raised the issue of payment of allowances and demanded several allowances, including technical allowances, planning allowances and risk allowances.
Similarly, Sanjib Kumar of the ECoREA said that all categories were upgraded by previous two Pay Commissions except railway engineers who were only downgraded. The ECoREA also argued that even though railway engineers have to undergo one to two years rigorous training to become professional in railway work, yet this is being unnoticed by previous two pay commissions. On modified assured career progression (MACP) scheme, CCP Chairman Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur said that this is under consideration for further modification.
