ECoR first Green Train flagged off

PNS

The Bhubaneswar-Rameswaram-Bhubaneswar Express via Visakhapatnam fitted with bio-toilets in all 23 coaches was flagged off on Friday at the Bhubaneswar railway station by a technician grade employee of East Coast Railway G Appa Rao, who will retire this month in the presence of Khurda Road Railway Division Additional DRM SK Choudhury.

As the train is connecting important tourist destinations, it has been decided for its conversion as a “Green Train” by providing all its coaches with bio-toilets for a greener and cleaner India.

The train is a great initiative towards fulfilling the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Green toilet aims at zero-defecation on to the ground, prevents damages to the track due to corrosion and there is no bad smell in toilets from the tanks, no infection of cockroaches and flies, no maintenance required, reduction in organic

matter by 90 per cent and no need for removal of solid waste.

The ECoR General Manager had earlier this month fixed the target date of November 30 for operationalisation of this Green Train.
