The Empowered Committee on Infrastructure (ECI) on Tuesday cleared proposals for construction of six hospitals and houses for economically-backward classes (EWS) in the capital city.

Officials said that of the four proposals approved by the ECI, the Rs 424-crore hospitals project would be implemented under PPP (public-private partnership) model. At a later stage, modalities of the project would be framed. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary AP Padhi.

While the hospitals would have a total of 800 seats, at least 359 beds would be reserved for the BPl (below poverty line) card holders.

Besides, as many as 1,300 low-cost houses would be built for the economically weaker section (EWS) of the society.

The ECI also gave a go ahead for construction of 23 rice storage godowns in the State. The officials stated that the ECI also approved a proposal for plying of town buses in Baleswar town.
