EC panel to decide on Ravenshaw polls

The Executive Council (EC) of the Ravenshaw University here on Saturday formed a sub-committee asking it to suggest steps about formation of a Students’ Council for the current academic session.

Deciding not to go for formation of the traditional Students’ Union through the old model of direct and centralised elections, the university had earlier decided to form a Students’ Council in a decentralised way by holding indirect elections.

However, due to protests by a handful of students and to avoid unpleasant situations inside the campus, the university authorities were forced to put off the proposed elections for formation of a council in August.

On the suggestion of the Teachers’ Council, the authorities raised the issue before the Executive Council.

“We submitted to the Executive Council a report detailing the sequence of events leading to the cancellations of the elections in August,” informed Vice-Chancellor Dr PK Sarangi.

The Executive Council formed a three-member committee comprising Dr GC Nanda, Dr Vijaya Mishra and Dr PC Panigrahi, all teachers, to look into the imbroglio afresh and suggest measures to overcome the problem.
