A large number of slum dwellers on Friday under the banner of the Basti Suraksha Manch staged a demonstration here in front of the State Assembly demanding fulfilment of a 10-point charter of demands. On the occasion, the Manch also launched a 40-day-long signature campaign to press their demands.
“Around one lakh signatures will be collected from 436 slums in the city till November 25. Our demands include a total ban on demolition of slums and provision of pucca houses under the Rajiv Awas Yojana,” said Manch secretary Pramila Nayak.The signatures would be given to the Chief Minister, added Manch president Ramachandra Sahoo.
