A preparatory as well as peace committee meeting for the ensuing Durga Puja was held here by the district administration. Several aspects concerning the celebration of the puja were discussed. ADM Akshay Mohanty presided.
The Akhada, the martial art showcasing, would be held on Maha Astami as well as on Dussehra and Ravan podi in two different venues, such as the light house field and the Balighat.
The meeting couldn’t decide when the mass immersion would take place as there has been a tradition in Baleswar to hold the immersion on the day following the Vijaya Dashmi. The peace committee comprised 171 members who would help the district administration for smooth conduct of the puja as well maintenance of law and order.
The meeting also took up issues like repair of roads, water supply, health and hygiene aspects of the town. Setting up information centre, deployment of adequate number of vehicles for transport and total closure of liquor shop were discussed. The excise and police departments too were asked to conduct raids in the liquor shops.
SP Awinash Kumar, Sadar MlA JP Dash, municipality chairman Alok Sahu, sub collector Indramani Nayak and Additional SP Gyanendra Parija, among others, were present.
