The District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) in Puri has swung into action over the alleged supplies of Covid kits from private medicine shops to Anganwadi Workers.
The office initiated a probe as to how a private shop sold kits to Anganwadi workers in violation of guidelines. Not only Covid kits, the office will also make a vivid probe of the roles of SHGs engaged in processing of foods for children of Anganawadi after some photos went viral on social networking site recently.
Nearly, 30 Anganwadi workers from 80 Kendras operating in city’s municipality ambit assembled on Tuesday where they were questioned about the Covid kits. They were quizzed to know about a person who was instrumental in choosing of a private shop for supply of Covid kits to all Anganawadis instead of the prescribed ‘Janausadhi Kendras.
An official said a probe would be launched into a viral video which claimed that the SHGs were preparing substandard foods for Angawadi children in connivance with officials. As it is matter of grave concern because of health of children, many SHGs might be blacklisted if they are found guilty in the investigation.
Sources also informed that the DSWO is under immense pressure from the higher-ups after a news portal broke a story about an SHG by showing its irregularities in a processing food unit.
Attracting a stern action targeting a senor official of DSWO, the video claimed that the packet foods given to children were not at par with recommend standards and a major part of the subsidised wheat, rice, sugar, oil, groundnuts etc the SHGs are availing from PDS is diverted to unknown destinations.
