Even though the State Government has made it mandatory to wear masks in public to prevent transmission of Coronavirus and to pay heavy fines for violation, many people are still flouting the rules.
Some of them react aggressively and resort to violence when they are asked to wear one.In a glaring example, a jail warder allegedly attacked an ASI during mask checking by the Udala police in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday night.
According to reports, accused Baripad Jail Warder Manoj Kumar Kuanr, and three other persons were gossiping near the Aurobindo School here without wearing masks or any facial coverings.
In the meantime, a patrolling team of Udala police reached the spot and ASI Sashi Bhusan Parida questioned them for the violation of the Covid protocols.
The situation took a violent turn when Kuanr attacked the cop. As the patrolling team tried to overpower Kuanr and bundle him into the police vehicle, he scuffled and abused them.Later, he was taken to the Udala police station for questioning. It is alleged that he was drunk.
