Depressed over her drunkard husband’s nuisance at home, a woman allegedly killed him with a pestle stone late on Sunday night, police sources said on Monday.
The incident took place in quarter number- D5/1 near the Jagannath temple at Mancheswar Railway Colony in the wee hours of Monday when the deceased, identified as Haribandhu Das (42), usually returned home in an inebriated state. Das and his wife Mamata had a fight over the former’s drinking habit during which the latter assaulted him with a pestle stone, killing him.
Some locals said Mamata was also depressed over her husband’s illicit intention towards her younger sister. She got infuriated when Das forced her to invite her sister to the quarter.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) probing the case said Das was working as a Grade-B employee (technician) in the East Coast Railway (ECoR). The couple has an eight-year old son.
The GRP have registered a murder case after a thorough investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased was later taken to the Capital Hospital for autopsy.
GRP Bhubaneswar IIC Saubhagya Kumar Swain said the police arrested Mamata for allegedly killing her husband. She was later forwarded to a local court here, he added.
