MDM loot, sexual harassment, indiscipline on rise

Teaching is always considered a noble profession. But alleged involvement of some teachers here in several objectionable acts in last couple of months has brought disgrace to the entire teacher fraternity.

Sources said in Jadibahal School under lahunipada, teacher Ramesh Sahoo was alleged to have canned a class I student leading to his hospitalisation. Similarly, another teacher of the same school courted a controversy for allegedly disrespecting the National Anthem when it was being sung on the Independence Day.

Dayanidhi Mahanta, headmaster of Sasyakala upper primary school, engaged school students for preparing mid day meal in absence of the cook. The block education officer after an investigation into the allegation suspended Mahanta. Similarly, headmistress of Rangamatia School Shanti lata Nayak was allegedly caught red-handed while stealing mid day meal rice from the school by the villagers.

Padma lochan Tripathy, headmaster in-charge of  the Kenapalli school, created nuisance in the school premises after consuming alcohol. Trinath Pradhan, headmaster of the Tinko Sevashram under lahunipada police station, was arrested and forwarded to court by the police recently for forcing two class III boys to have unnatural sex in hostel. Two teachers including the headmaster of Kundukela teacher training school were arrested in last month for sexual torture.

In yet another shameful incident, headmaster Nirakar Das and CRCC Bibhisan Tanti were served a show cause notice and their salaries were blocked for several irregularities in Buchatoli Project Primary school under Raiboga cluster of the district.

Very recently, a headmaster of a Government school was suspended for misbehaving and initiating sexual provocative talks to a lady teacher.

The district education officer (DEO) acknowledged that the allegations against teachers in the district were rising. “We are taking disciplinary actions against the culprits and are planning to have a sensitisation programme to restrain such cases,” DEO DC Behera said.
