In a heartrending incident, a pet dog saved the lives of eight persons of the family from four poisonous snakes but failed to save its own life in Gajapati district.
On Monday night, when the dog was guarding the family outside the house of one Dibakar Rout of Sebakapur village under Rayagada block, four giant cobras attempted to enter into the house at a time.
Seeing the reptiles, the pet dog of Doberman breed, attacked the snakes and later beat the cobras for prohibiting them from entering into the house. However, the dog died after a while as the snakes made a counter attack.
As the news spread, villagers of Sebakapur and nearby villages made a beeline to see the faithful dog. The concerned family and locals mourned the dog’s death and conducted its last rites as that of a family member.
