PNS

Modern medical facilities should be available to the people, particularly to the weaker sections of the society, at an affordable cost,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the inauguration of the 38th annual conference of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India, organised at the KIIT here on Friday. .

“I hope the surgeons will be sensible to the affordability of the poor people,” he said.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is a specialised field to treat a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and hard and soft tissues of oral and maxillofacial region. Starting as a branch of dentistry, it has evolved to be a specialised procedure in the past two decades. With aid from technologies like lASER and titanium implants, the branch offers a lot of scope in future.

As this is comparatively an emerging stream, the association should make efforts to create awareness on this subject.  Articles, features, seminars and other communication modes should be applied to make public aware of this subject, said a speaker.

The function was also attended by Health Minister Dr Damodar Rout, KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta,  Cardiologist Dr KP Mishra, AOMSI president Dr Neelam Noel Andrade and general secretary Dr Manjunath Rai.
