The Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) withdrew its cease-work agitation on Saturday after Director Dr Ashwini Pujahari was sent on leave by the Health Department.

The association members had been staging the stir since November 19 demanding ouster of Pujahari for his alleged autocratic style of functioning and giving unproven therapies to patients at the premier hospital. Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Meherda had on Friday served a show-cause notice to Pujahari, asking him to furnish a reply within three days on the findings of the inquiry committee that investigated the allegations against him. He also asked Pujahiri to go on a leave till subsequent disposal by the Government.

Dr Pujahari withdrew from surgical practice at the institute on Friday after a video showing him using unproven therapies for treatment with salt during a surgery had gone viral on social media.
