PNS

A person was injured as some miscreants, who had entered the SBI Main Branch in Dhenkanal town to commit a dacoity, fired at him when he among many others tried to capture them on Wednesday afternoon.

Three of four robbers were, however, caught and handed over to police.

The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm when the miscreants were moving suspiciously inside the SBI Branch office. Security guard along with some customers present there soon enquired about their identity. They didn’t answer satisfactorily and started running away from the bank premises. The security guard and the people soon chased to capture them.

While one of the robbers managed to flee away with a Pulsar motorcycle, three others tried to run. One of these three persons opened fire at the people. One Saroj Pradhan was injured.

Still people chased them and could capture them  from the Mini Stadium, a km away from the bank. They were handed over to police.

The miscreants, identified as Jitendra Das, Ahmad Khan and Muna, were residents of the Kandarpur area in Cuttack district.

Saroj was rushed to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated, sources said.

While one of the miscreants beaten up by locals has been admitted in the DHH, the two others have been detained by the police, sources added.
