DMET probe to hush up matter, says BJP

PNS

Expressing his lack of confidence in the inquiry by the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) into the post delivery death of three women in Burla based VSS Medical College and Hospital on Friday last, former BJP State president Suresh Pujari said when an inquiry report of death of nine infants in a day in July 2013 in the VSS is yet to be made public, little can be relied on the present inquiry.

Pujari described the present incident as shameful since such incidents are even rare in the African countries. “Those who came for the inquiry don’t know the ABC of it. The inquiring officers have not interacted with a single person/relative of the victims. They have only contacted the doctors and staff who might have told nothing but everything in their defence,” said Pujari, demanding that a case be registered against the doctors/ staff responsible for the incident and the matter be probed by Crime Branch.

Pujari also smelt fishy in the attitude of the medical authorities to send the bodies to their respective villages without conducting any post mortem. “This indicates that something has gone wrong that the authorities want to hide,” Pujari said.

However, BJD MlA of Sambalpur, who was a former HOD of the Gynaecology department of the VSS, Dr Raseswari Panigrahi said, “It always a fact that doctors of the periphery areas always recommend the complicated cases to Burla. And, it becomes, at times, difficult to handle them with the limited facilities available there.” “In the case of the death of the three mothers, two were suffering from sickle cell anaemia.  It is always risky for such patient during pregnancy and child birth,” Dr Panigrahi said.
