Ganjam district Collector Prem Chandra Choudhury on Friday asked the District labour Officer (DlO) to conduct an inquiry into the reported incident of 12 youths of the district getting tortured by a company in Saudi Arabia.
The administration has no information about the 12 youths, who have reportedly gone to Saudi Arabia in search of work. Hence, the DlO has been asked to gather information regarding the youths. On receipt of report, the External Affairs Ministry would be contacted to bring back the youths, said Choudhury.
According to reports, 12 youths from Beguniapada, Khallikote and Sorada area along with eight youths of Andhra Pradesh and two youths of Telangana were taken by a Dalal from Ichhapuram to Saudi Arabia a few months back.
They were engaged in the Riyadh-based Aamal Al-Muqawil, a contracting company. But they have not got their payments for the past four months.
The families of the victims have requested the district administration to intervene in the matter for their rescue.
