The BJP on Friday alleged that farmer suicide cases are rising in the State due to the State Government’s severe negligence towards them.
“The State Government has left the fate and future of farmers in the hands of millers. Thus, they (farmers) are facing distress sale and committing suicide under the stress of
loan burden,” BJP spokesperson Sameer Mohanty said
in a statement.
He informed that as many as three farmers, Bhagirathi Pradhan (35) of Bargarh district’s Khedapli village, Chitrasena Endeja of Paikamal Bhuliabandh and laxman Pradhan, have died in the State in just nine days of the New Year 2015.
“The Government is not procuring paddy from farmers, who are burdened with Mahajani loans. They are also not being given cooperative loans. Besides, thousands of quintals of paddy recently damaged rains have added to farmers woes,” Mahanty alleged further. He threatened that the BJP would take to the streets if the State Government doesn’t open mandis and procure paddy from farmers soon.
