The State Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training on Thursday decided to allow diploma students to appear for 6th Semester examinations using smartphones.

“Considering the present Covid-19 scenario, it is decided that the students who do not have laptop or desktop computers can appear for the online examinations using Android smartphones from their house,” read a notification issued by the council.

The students have to ensure internet connectivity during the examination.

“The students who do not have even Android mobile phones or have internet connectivity problem may only avail the option of visiting nearby designated examination centres to appear in the examinations,” added the notification.

In a related development, the Government said it is mulling to reduce school syllabus by 30 per cent or more for 2020-21 academic session in lines with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

“Looking at CBSE’s move to reduce syllabus for Classes IX to XII by 30 per cent, the State Government is mulling to follow suit,” said School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash.

He said the exact volume of reduction would be ascertained only after the schools reopen.

Regarding reopening of schools, he said a decision would be taken basing on the Covid situation after August 31.
