Former Union Minister Dilip Ray has urged for national heritage status to Vedvyas, a famous tourist destination of western Odisha.
Writing a letter to CM Naveen Patnaik, he mentioned that Vedvyas is also known as ‘Second Sangam’ where there is a confluence of three rivers, Shankha, Koel and Saraswati, which forms the Brahmani river. It is believed to be the very place where the ancient scriptures, the Vedas, were penned by the revered sage Maharsi Vyasadeva.
The spiritual and intellectual heritage associated with the sacred location is of utmost importance not only to the people of Odisha but also to the entire nation, he said.
Ray further mentioned that the historical significance of Vedvyas also cannot be overstated. It represents a sacred meeting point of the rivers, which symbolizes the convergence of knowledge, wisdom and spirituality. Accordance of national heritage status will bring numerous benefits to Vedvyas and its surrounding areas, he said.
It will attract increased attention from tourists, scholars and spiritual seekers, thereby boosting tourism and generating economic opportunities for the local community. Furthermore, it will pave the way for conservation efforts, ensuring the preservation of the temple, its architectural marvels and the natural beauty of the site, Ray emphasised.
