A minor differently-abled girl was raped by a youth in the Rambha police station area of Ganjam district on Tuesday.
Police have detained the accused and are interrogating him in this connection.
The incident came to light after the victim’s family lodged a complaint on Wednesday with the Rambha police.
As per a complaint, when the 14-year-old was alone in the house, one M Lingaraj Patra sneaked in and outraged her modesty. After coming to know about the incident, the victim’s family members informed the village committee. Finding him guilty, the committee imposed a penalty on the accused. But Patra refused to accept the decision.
On Thursday, both the accused and the girl were sent to hospital for medical examination, sources said.
