Diarrhoea spreads  tentacles in Baleswar

PNS

Diarrhoea is spreading its tentacles in the district fast. On Thursday, a woman suffering from the disease succumbed in Nilgiri.

The deceased was identified as  Debi Hembram  of village Kantrasimila under Bhaunriabada panchayat. She was admitted with complaints of vomiting ,nausea and loose motion and died while undergoing treatment  in the Nilgiri Sub-Divisional Hospital.

As per locals, the disease is widely spreading in the area and earlier two people  of  Baigangadia village under Dakhinnarsinghpur panchayat under Oupada block had died suffering  from diarrhoea. They alleged that contaminated water and unclean environment was causing people to suffer from the disease. They also alleged that whatever  the health administration was doing was very little.

According to the locals, several people of  their area mainly from Kanpur, Iswarpur and Santragadia  are affected  with the disease and under treatment in the Nilgiri hospital.

They alleged that although  three people have died  in these two  blocks  which is considered  as tribal dominated patches, yet the administration  was not taking adequate measures including enhancing cleanliness and awareness among the population to contain  the menace.

In Oupada after death of two persons, for a few days the health officials visited the area and stressed on cleanliness and informed the villagers about the preventive measures.

In the meanwhile, diarrhoea is reported from  other bocks of the district  including Bhograi, Jaleswar and Basta area .

Everyday patients are admitted  in the District Headquarters Hospitals from the referral healthcare units.

The diarrhoea  ward in the DHH is most of time seen flooded  with the patients. The patients  are seen lying on the floor as  there is only 12 beds to accommodate the patients, although the hospital administration informed  that  it was looking for other viable options to  accommodate the diarrhoea patients  when there was a surge in  the number.
