Dhenkanal law college governing body invalidated

The Higher Education Department has derecognised and invalidated the present governing body of the Dhenkanal law College on December 10.

Appointing the Dhenkanal Sub-Collector as ‘special officer’ for a period of 30 days for the management of the college affairs, the department has also cautioned that no decision of the governing body of the college would be abiding on the education department and also on the college.

Moreover, the department has requested the Dhenkanal Sub-Collector to submit a proposal of the new governing body members within 30 days for it reconstitution.

Notably, the Dhenkanal law College was started in 1980 by a few members of the Dhenkanal Bar Association. The college was started first at Saudamini Vidyapitha here with senior advocate late Srinibash Kar as president of the governing body.

Initially, as the site of the college was chosen to be near the Dhenkanal royal palace, the University Grand Commission (UGC) had denied grant for construction of its permanent building, citing unsuitability of the place.

Then the governing body had purchased another land on the main road near Dhenkanal Railway Station, Kaling Jute Mill and Barjoranal, which was duly approved of.

The college at present has got good infrastructure due to regular funding of the UGC, but gradually, the institution has been crippled due to managerial deficiency and political interference, said sources.
