One miscreant having mobile number 7789001979 has asked young garment merchant Basanta Kumar Agarwal of Dhenkanal to come to Cuttack with an amount of Rs50 lakh.
The place of meeting between the miscreant and the merchant would be intimated to the latter in SMS on Sunday, the phone call said. As Agarwal refused to oblige since he is not capable enough to pay such a huge amount, the caller said he had knowledge about Agarwal’s big garment counters at Dhenkanal, Angul and Talcher along with jewellery shops.
More interestingly, the threat call that came in the name of an associate of the criminal Dhalsamant brothers on Sunday was repeated on Monday. The caller threatened to shoot Agarwal dead if he did not pay Rs50 lakh soon.
Agarwal has lodged an FIR at the Town police station here in this regards.
When asked, Town PS OIC Pradeep Pradhan told The Pioneer that even though police do not believe the caller’s link with the Dhalsamant brothers, a case has been registered under Sections 506, 507 and 385 IPC and investigation has begun.
Agarwal’s family has also been provided police protection. But Agarwal, when contacted, said he had refused to avail police protection as he suspects the phone calls came from a business rival in Dhenkanal.
