The CRPF has been asked to provide couple of more battalions to combat the Maoist menace in the State. Extremist activities by local cadres is in control but the rebels from adjoining States are sneaking into Odisha to create unrest , said DGP KB Singh after a meeting with Central Zone CRPF DG Kuldeep Singh here on Thursday.

DGP KB Singh speaking to the media said this was the first visit of the CRPF DG Singh after he took over charge. Basically the meeting was held to improve coordination between the Paramilitary and the State police to combat the Red rebels in an effective manner.

Besides, the DGP said the discussion were also held on joint combing operations, activities of  the rebels in neighbouring States and ways to protect civilians in Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi and Malkangiri districts in view of the recent violence incidents. He said that more stress would be laid on the four insurgency-affected districts and appropriate measures would be taken for augmenting the infrastructure and deployment of forces, said experts.

It might be mentioned here the Maoists are spreading their tentacles to districts like Kalahandi, taking advantage of the low police presence, poor communication network and inadequate infrastructure. The rebels want the locals to lose confidence on the law enforcement agencies and State Government. For this they target innocent civilians.

Among others, Intelligence chief and IG Operations were also present in the meeting at the DGP camp office.
