State police DG KB Singh paid a visit to Koraput and made a review of the Maoist movement and operation. ADG cum special Director Intelligence Arun Kumar Sadangi, IG operation Soumendra Priyadarshi and ADG cum Director Intelligence Sunil Roy accompanied him.
About 1 pm on Friday, the DG landed at BSF helipad at Koraput and visited the SOG Jawan’s training school at Deulmunda village near Koraput. Then he arrived at south western range DIG’s office and joined the review meeting along with the officers.
In the meeting top officials from CRPF-COBRA, BSF and SOG team were present. South western range DIG S Saini along with SPs of five districts like Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Nuapada and Kalahandi were also present.
As per sources, some new strategies to defend the Maoist movement in the Naxal-infested districts have been discussed. Also in the meeting the coordination between Odisha police and central armed forces was taken up. Emphasis was put on intelligence sharing with the armed forces of neighbouring States and central armed forces.
It is believed that after the killing of two BSF Jawans by extremists near Ramgiri on January 8 and one civilian at Dandabadi, the State police are on action mood. So this review was to strengthen the force and to intensify the counter operations.
“The 2015 year was quite satisfactory and we have got lots of success in Maoist operation in these regions. Being desperate, the extremists are killing the innocent tribals. So to defend them and to protect the people we are going to intensify the Maoist operation in this belt,” said DG Singh.
After the review the team of officials flew to Malkangiri to review the status of Maoist moment and operation status in the district.
