like in other parts of the State, thousands of devotees offered special prayers at various Shiva temples in Jharsuguda district to mark the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan.
According to the tradition, it is believed that worshipping lord Shiva during this day people are blessed with wealth and prosperity. Most people come with a wish, a prayer, and keep coming till the prayer is fulfilled, but nobody tells you what it is. It’s only for the deity to hear.
Kanwariya pilgrims in the early morning collect river water from various ghats of Ib river and store it in Kanwar containers before offering it to the Shivalingas at the temples.
The famous OPM Shiva temple at Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda’s Jhareswar temple and ancient Kuilighoghar Shiva temple at lakhanpur here and the shrines elsewhere in the district reverberated with the chanting of Har Har Mahadeva and Bol Bam by devotees.
The devotees gather in large numbers offering milk, Bel leaves and holy water to lord Shiva in the wee hours of morning.
