The Ganjam Zilla Bikash Manch submitted a memorandum to Union Culture and Tourism Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma during the launching ceremony of the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) here on May 9 urging him to develop the district into a tourism circuit.
Having information on all tourist destinations of the undivided Ganjam district, the memorandum contained a 10-page detailed project report (DPR).
The demands include setting up of a maritime aquarium and water sports facility at Gopalpur sea beach, widening of the NH-5 at Sidhi Vinayak Peetha and plying of OTDC buses to the spot, provision of allied facilities at Dhabaleswar Peeth, etc.
Manch president Bhukant Sahoo said, “The district has tourist spots in every 5 to 10 kilometer. It has gained recognitions not only in Odisha but also in the entire country as the highest number of folk art and folk culture is in south Odisha, besides tourist spots”.
If various developmental works are undertaken, the district can be made a tourism circuit, said Sahoo.
