The depression moved north-northwestwards and crossed the West Bengal coast near Canning and lay centred near latitude 22.3 degree north and longitude 87.5 degree east about 30 km south east of Midnapore. The system would move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a low-pressure area during next 24hours.
Heavy rains are likely to occur at one or two places in the State by Friday, the meteorological centre said.
Advice has been issued for hoisting distant cautionary signals at the Paradip and Gopalpur Ports. Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the north Odisha coast.
