The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) issued an advertisement for recruitment to the posts of 211 Dental Surgeons in the Group A (Junior) category of the Odisha Medical Service (Dental) cadre and conducted examination for the purpose. But it called only 152 candidates for counselling by not even publishing the test results of the rest 59 applicants leading to suspicion in public.
The OPSC, sources said, has even selected Post-Graduate (PG) students for the posts of Dental Surgeons while its advertisement clearly mentioned that a Bachelor Degree of Dental Surgery (BDS) or an equivalent degree holder from a medical college recognised by the Dental Council of India was eligible for a Dental Surgeon.
Now, question arises how a PG student could serve in Government medical institutions and how he/she would be able to treat patients.
Sources further stated that the 152 selected candidates have been posted in CHCs only in western Odisha. Though there is huge vacancies in medical institutes in the coastal belt, neither the OPSC is publishing the results of the rest 59 students nor taking efforts to inform the candidates the actual reason behind non-publication of the results.
Meanwhile, sources added that the Government after being moved by some aggrieved applicants about the suspicious activities of the OPSC in the Dental Surgeon recruitment process has initiated efforts to put everything on track.
The applicants demanded immediate publication of their results and urged the Government to facilitate transparency in the OPSC’s functioning.
Even though the 59 aspirants have approached the OPSC authorities to know their results on several occasions, the latter have only played a hide-and-seek game with them until now.
Despite several representations, appeals and even visits, neither the OPSC Chairman nor the Secretary is bothered about the grievances of the applicants.
