Deep depression weakens

PNS

The deep depression formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining the West Bengal and north Odisha coasts has weakened into a well-marked low pressure area, the Regional Office of the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) here informed on Sunday.

However, rainfall is likely over a few places in the interior areas and western Odisha due to active monsoon. The weather condition over the coastal areas in Odisha would remain dry, said the IMD.

As per reports, the State has received 15 per cent more rainfall in comparison with previous years. As many as 25 districts have received sporadic rainfall, the highest being 14.0 mm in Dhenkanal district.

With this, the cumulative average rainfall of the State from June 1 till September 8 has come to a surplus of 19 per cent over the long term average rainfall.

The IMD forecast rain and thundershowers at many places over north coastal Odisha and a few places over rest of the State on Monday, but there is no warning of heavy rainfall in any place.
