Declare coop polls void, demands BJP

PNS

The BJP on Thursday accused the ruling BJD of making all-out efforts to grab a majority in elections to the cooperative societies like it did in panchayat and municipal polls with tacit support from State Government employees.

Party leader and former Cooperation Minister Surama Padhi said the cooperative elections have become a farce as poor farmers who want to elect their chosen representatives are deprived of voting.

She demanded that the cooperative polls be declared null and void.

She said the BJD-supported defaulting farmers are being allowed to contest elections so that the real farmers are denied their legitimate rights.

Padhi alleged that the entire cooperative system has been destroyed in the State. Officials who have no knowledge of the cooperative system and election management are appointed as retuning officers and they are brought from the Panchayati Raj Department to help the BJD win the elections.
