The lifeline of Jharsuguda is dependent on proper functioning of the railway as more than 50 per cent of people depend on the sector for daily needs and communication.
In addition to passenger services, Railway Mail Service (RMS) at Jharsuguda carries much importance for proper, quick dispatch and receipt of mails. But, of late, it is understood that the existing RMS is going to be merged with National Sorting Hub (NSH), Sambalpur.
This will create dislocation of postal delivery services across the postal region, apprehend many people here.
To overcome the problem, Health Minister and local MLA Naba Kisore Das recently has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to give personal attention for opening of a new Intra Circle Hub (ICH) or National Sorting Hub Service at Jharsuguda without merging the RMS, Jharsuguda with Sambalpur in the greater interest of the people of Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency.
The letter further said that Jharsuguda being one of the oldest railway links is falling under three railway divisions namely South Eastern Railways, Central Eastern Railways and East Coast Railways. Das requested the Railway Minister to consider the genuine problems of Jharsuguda people and take appropriate action accordingly.
