Danger: Wires, meters hang low in K'pada town

PNS

Thanks to a slipshod attitude and negligence of the electricity department, which has hung electricity meters low and left live wires also hanging low, the locals in a posh location of the district headquarters town here are facing a serious threat to life.

The electric meters of the police quarters in the town have been fixed dangerously in iron electric pole, just three feet from the ground. Besides, electric live wires also hang very low near the district collector’s office.

It is strange that though the location is very crowded and just a stone’s throw from the collectorate office gate, but it is yet to come to the notice of the district administration. As many as 12 electric meters have been fixed very low on pole on road side of the collectorate office, where hundreds of locals, including school children, use the road every day. Apart from this, most of the time the road remains jammed with people as the denizens commute on the road to protest in front of the road. There is every possibility that at any moment a major mishap could occur due to electrocution.

locals demanded that the electric meters should have been covered and fixed in the quarters of the police building, not in the pole. They sought that the department should take necessary steps for covering the meters and affix them at a safe height.

When contacted ENZEN manager Srikant Panda said the matter had come to his notice and he would do the needful in this regard.
