PThe Dalit Bikash Parishad on Tuesday staged a demonstration and held a meeting in front of the Balikuda tehsil office, 20 km from here, demanding land for landless Dalit people in the district. Parishad president Sankar Das said the State Government has implemented the Vasundhara scheme to provide land to the landless poor and Dalits, but the endeavour has taken a back seat in the district.
The Parishad demanded proper implementation of the scheme so that the beneficiaries can get land. Balikuda Tehsildar Rashmi Rekha Mallick reached the spot and assured that the demand would be considered expeditiously. Following her assurance, the agitators called off the stir.
