The Brahmapur Sadar police foiled a dacoity bid by arresting six armed dacoits from a secluded place at Balakrushnapur village under Kududakhandi block in Ganjam district recently.
The arrested were identified as Siba Patanaik, N Mehesh Reddy, Bibhu Bisoyi and Susanta Samal of Haridakhandi, Kanha Padhiary of Bendalia and Sunil Dalei of lathi.
The police seized deadly weapons like swords, iron rods and live bombs from them. There are many dacoity, robbery and extortion cases pending against them, police said.
They had looted one G Tirupati a 40-gram gold chain, two silver bracelets, two costly phones and Rs 10,000 on the Bendalia-Haladiapadar road on March 3. These items were also seized from them. K Malikajuna Rao of Badabazar, who had bought the gold chain, was also arrested, informed IIC Siba Sankar Mohapatra.
