Entangling the Dhalasamanta Brothers in fake cases after their arrests in January 2016 was exposed yet again on Monday when a court here on the day absolved the brothers of their involvement in the 2014 murder of dal trader Sk Farooq of Malgodown here. The District and Sessions court also in this case exonerated one Arif Khan, who was said to be a sharpshooter and an aide of the D-Brothers.

“The court today acquitted Sushant Dhalasamant, his younger brother Sushil and another accused by the name Arif Khan in the Farooq murder case of 2014 as there was no evidence against the trio. The case was dismissed as ‘No Evidence’. Earlier also, three other accused were acquitted in the same case,” informed Dhalasamant brothers’ counsel senior advocate Soura Chandra Mohapatra.

Arif Khan was reportedly picked up by Cuttack City police from some location in Tamil Nadu in April 2016, just three months after the arrests of the D-Brothers. Police had then claimed that Arif had worked for the D-Brothers and was involved in two murder cases, including the 2013 murder of their estranged associates Dipu Mallick and Om Prakash Swain and the 2014-murder of dal trader Farooq.

Apart from these two cases, the D-Brothers were also entangled in several other criminal cases, Mohapatra said adding that the city police entangled them in at least two dozen cases within three months of their arrests on January 29, 2016. “I urge upon the city police administration to complete the investigation of those cases, which have been kept open for long,” Mohapatra said, hoping that a sincere effort by the prosecution will save the court’s time and uphold the fundamental rights of the citizens as well.
