Basing on marathon investigations made so far, the Commissionerate Police on Friday claimed that the arrested Dhalsamant brothers with the help of others had kidnapped two of their estranged associates from Cuttack in November 2013, lynched them to death at a nearby farmhouse in the Athgarh area before disposing of the bodies in neighbouring Jharkhand State.

Speaking to reporters here, twin city Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said Dipu Mallick and Om Swain, who earlier worked as shooters for Sushant Dhalsamant and his younger brother Sushil, were eliminated as they went out of control and posed threat to the dreaded criminal brothers.

Elaborating the modus operandi, Khurania said Dipu and Om were picked up from their houses on November 13, 2013, taken to the farmhouse, where they were beaten to death by at least seven persons on the same day. later the bodies stacked in gunny bags were set on fire under a culvert within five km of Jharkhand’s Guwa police station.

The Jharkhand police had registered a case after retrieving the bodies on November 18, 2013 but had to close it after one year as “no clue” since the bodies were charred beyond recognition, Khurania said, adding that investigation on this aspect is still continuing. He did not disclose about the evidence gathered on it.

Khurania further informed that at least six cases have been registered at different police stations of the twin cities in this connection and seven persons, including the Dhalsamant brothers are arrested so far. “Evidence of involvement of seven more persons in it are also available,” he said, indicating more arrests may happen.

When asked about the political links of the arrested brothers as evidenced from the hobnobbing of different leaders with Sushil, who was in the mainstream for last two years by floating a youth organisation, the police commissioner said appropriate action would follow after investigation.

“It is a very elaborate investigation. We have been very systematic, and all aspects are being looked into. It will take some time, but action will definitely follow,” Khurania said.
