Cyclonic circulation over BoB in Oct 2nd half

PNS

Even as heavy rains have been lashing various parts of the State for the last few days, a fresh cyclonic circulation may form over the Bay of Bengal (BOB) in the second half of October, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted on Friday.

The cyclonic circulation may form over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during October 14 to October 20.

The forecasted system may move west-northwestwards with “low” probability (up to 33 per cent) of further intensification.

“There is likelihood of formation of a cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea with low probability of its further intensification and west-northwestwards movement,” the IMD said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

The outlook further said that there is “low” probability of formation of a cyclonic circulation/ low pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea during the second week.

The rainfall activity in Odisha is likely to be less from Saturday as the Regional Office of the IMD here has issued no warning.
