The district administration on Wednesday directed to shut down the Sun Hospital at Tulsipur here temporarily in connection with a fire mishap on February 1.

Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani asked the concerned officials to shut the facility after the hospital authorities failed to  submit satisfactory explanations on a show-cause notice served by the administration over the mishap.

Chayani said that the hospital would remain closed until its management gives a satisfactory reply. Patients’ treatment and laboratory activities have also been restricted till further order, he said.Notably, the hospital was operating without a fire safety certificate. However, evacuation mock-drills were conducted at the hospital at regular intervals, Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy (OFDRA) Director Maheswar Swain had said earlier.

A major fire had broken out on the top floor of the hospital building on February 1, triggering panic among patients, attendants and staffs but fortunately no lives were lost.
