Cuttack booths to be disabled-friendly

PNS

As part of its endeavour to make all the polling booths under its jurisdiction disabled-friendly, the Cuttack district administration has decided to put all facilities in place at the booths to ensure that physically-handicapped persons exercise their franchise without any hassles in the general elections on April 17.

At a review meeting here recently, district Collector Girish SN instructed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) of the district to ensure that databases of all physically-challenged voters are prepared immediately. He said all the 2,171 booths of the district would have ramps and wheelchairs to help the physically-challenged voters. Sign-language experts would be appointed at the booths to help the hearing-impaired voters understand the process of voting. Similarly, the visually-challenged voters would be assisted with Braille ballot papers to exercise their franchise.
