Customers deprived of CBS in post offices

TATHYA

Many customers in Odisha are getting deprived of the Core Banking Solution (CBS) system in the post offices as they are unable to open Savings Bank accounts and other deposits under several plans.

In another step forward to introduce customer-friendly facilities at the post offices, the India Post has implemented the CBS system or digital connectivity.

However, the facility appears defunct for customers, especially those who wanted to park their money in permanent savings and other plans of the postal department in the month of March.

The India Post has initiated efforts to connect the transactions of amount and other activities through the CBS network for which the internet facility has been provided to post offices in villages and towns.

However, no progress has been made in this regard so far due to poor internet service in rural areas.

Although the BSNl has provided internet service to the post offices across the country, the service has been found below par in many areas due to which customers have expressed displeasure over the services provided by the postal department.

Customers, who wanted to deposit money under several postal plans to get tax relief in March, are now opting for deposits in scheduled banks. While employees are ready to provide service under the digital connectivity system, the poor internet connectivity in rural areas has proved a hindrance in availability of postal services.

In many cases, lack of training to employees has also become an issue in implementation of the CBS system.

Several allegations have been reported from villages of the State’s coastal districts like Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Kendrapada as well as western districts about poor internet service in the post offices.
