Maoists are planning strategies to take on the security forces and attempting to derail the various development works in the border areas, said CRPF DG Rajiv Bhatnagar after a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Monday.

He said the Maoists are planning to create a corridor linking Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. But the Odisha police and the CRPF are chalking out a new strategy to combat them.

“The CRPF and the Odisha police have good cooperation. The CRPF ensures protection for development of infrastructure and other needs of the State.  We are working on a comprehensive strategy to address peculiar issues like the Maoists’ plans of creating corridors and hampering various development works,” Bhatnagar said.

Earlier on Sunday, Bhatnagar, along with DGP KB Singh visited several areas in Koraput and reviewed situation in cut-off areas.

DGP Singh said, “The CRPF DG and I visited Koraput and the Cobra Battalion and reviewed the Naxal scenario in Odisha. We also discussed on redeployment of paramilitary forces with a change in strategy in certain corridors and areas like Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Koraput.”

This was Bhatanagar’s first visit to the State after taking charge as the CRPF DG.
