Unseasonal rains have affected crops in as many as 19 districts of the State, said State Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi here on Monday after the concerned district Collectors submitted damage assessment reports.
Sethi said crop loss in 15,000 villages in 135 blocks and 35 urban local body areas have been reported. The total crops loss is in 3.84 lakh hectares of land.
Sources said the districts of Nuapada, Malkangiri, Subarnapur and Jharsuguda have recorded no crop loss due to the unseasonal rains triggered by a low pressure last week.
With the SRC’s office getting the damage evaluation reports, the Government would begin the necessary assessment of the losses incurred by the farmers and start compensation process within a week, an official said.
The Government had asked the district Collectors on November 18 to submit reports on crop loss by November 25. The Collectors were asked to furnish the list of affected villagers sustaining crop loss of 33 per cent and above. Farmers who sustained crop loss of 33 per cent and above due to the calamity are eligible to get agricultural input subsidy as per the norms of SDRF.
