Police arrested nabbed notorious criminal Chakanayan Nahak from the Jhagadei area under the Aska police limits in Ganjam district following an encounter late on Friday night.
As per a source in the police, Nahak, who sustained a bullet injury on his leg, has been admitted to the Aska Government hospital.
The incident occurred when he was roaming around by a motorbike along with one of his aides and was intercepted by a team of the Aska police.
While the police tried to nab the duo, Nahak opened fire at the cops. The cops retaliated in defence and one of the bullets pierced his leg injuring him.
Two firearms were recovered from Nahak. There are a number of cases pending against him at different police stations, said police sources.
Nahaik’s associate, however, managed to flee during the encounter.
